About Text Diff / Compare
Text Diff compares two versions of a text and highlights what changed, line by line. It is useful for checking edits to a contract or article, comparing two config files, or spotting what was altered between drafts.
How to use it
- Paste the original text into the Before panel.
- Paste the changed text into the After panel.
- Review the comparison, which marks each line as added, removed or unchanged, and shows how many lines were added and removed.
Good to know
- The comparison works line by line. A small edit inside a line shows as the old line removed and the new line added.
- Differences in whitespace count as changes. Run both versions through the Whitespace Cleaner first if you only care about wording.
- Your text is processed in your browser and is never sent to a server.
Common questions
Can I compare two files?
Open each file, copy its contents, and paste them into the Before and After panels.
Why does a whole paragraph show as changed?
If a paragraph is written as one long line, any edit within it changes the whole line. Breaking text into shorter lines gives a more precise comparison.
