About Find & Replace

Find & Replace swaps every occurrence of a word or phrase in a block of text for something else. Optional regular expression support makes it powerful enough to reformat dates, strip patterns or restructure lists in a single step.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the input panel.
  2. Enter the text to find and the text to replace it with.
  3. Switch on Regex to use a regular expression, and Case-sensitive if capitalization should matter.
  4. Copy the result from the output panel.

Good to know

  • Every match is replaced, not only the first one.
  • Without Regex, the find text is matched literally, so symbols like periods and brackets are treated as ordinary characters.
  • With Regex on, you can reference capture groups in the replacement using $1, $2 and so on.
  • Your text is processed in your browser and is never sent to a server.

Common questions

How do I delete a word everywhere?

Enter the word in Find and leave Replace empty.

How can I test a complicated pattern first?

Use the Regex Tester in the Developer Utilities kit to see exactly what your pattern matches before replacing anything.
