About Video Upload Size Estimator
The Video Upload Size Estimator predicts how large a video file will be from its bitrate and duration. It helps you choose export settings that stay under a platform's upload limit before you spend time rendering.
How to use it
- Enter the video bitrate in kilobits per second.
- Enter the audio bitrate in kilobits per second.
- Enter the duration in seconds.
- Read the estimated file size and any platform limits it exceeds.
Good to know
- File size is roughly total bitrate × duration ÷ 8. Containers add a little overhead, so real files can be slightly larger.
- Typical upload caps used for comparison: X 512 MB, TikTok 287 MB, Instagram 4 GB and LinkedIn 5 GB. These vary by account type, app and upload method.
- Variable bitrate exports can end up smaller or larger than the average suggests.
Common questions
What bitrate should I use for 1080p video?
Around 8,000 to 12,000 kbps is common for 1080p uploads. Platforms recompress uploads anyway, so extremely high bitrates rarely help.
Why is my exported file a different size?
Encoders often vary the bitrate across a video, and containers add metadata. The estimate is a planning figure, not an exact prediction.
