About Post Character Counter
The Post Character Counter measures a caption against the limit of the platform you are posting to, including X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and Threads. It shows how many characters you have left so you can trim before posting rather than after.
How to use it
- Choose the platform.
- Write or paste your caption.
- Watch the count and remaining characters update as you type.
Good to know
- Limits used: X 280, Instagram 2,200, Facebook 63,206, TikTok 2,200, LinkedIn 3,000 and Threads 500 characters.
- For X, the count follows its weighted rules: every link counts as 23 characters, and wide characters such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as 2.
- Instagram and other apps may hide longer captions behind a "more" link, so put the key message first.
Common questions
Why is my X count different from a normal character count?
X shortens every link to a fixed length and counts some characters as two. This tool applies those rules, so the number matches what X will accept more closely.
Do emoji count as one character?
On most platforms an emoji counts as at least one character, and some count as more. Leave a small margin if your caption is full of emoji.
