About Hashtag & Mention Extractor
The Hashtag & Mention Extractor pulls every hashtag and @mention out of a caption and counts them. It is useful for auditing a post before publishing, reusing a hashtag set, or checking that you have tagged everyone you meant to.
How to use it
- Paste or write your caption.
- Review the lists of hashtags and mentions and their counts.
Good to know
- Hashtags made only of numbers, such as #2024, are skipped because most platforms do not treat them as tags.
- Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags on a post, and the tool flags captions that go over that.
- Hashtags and mentions are recognized when they use letters, numbers and underscores, and mentions may also contain periods.
Common questions
How many hashtags should I use?
It varies by platform. A handful of relevant tags usually works better than a long list of generic ones.
Why was a hashtag not detected?
A hashtag must start after a space or at the beginning of a line, and it ends at the first character that is not a letter, number or underscore.
