About Compress PDF
Compress PDF re-saves a document with a cleaner internal structure, which can reduce the file size of PDFs that carry redundant data. It shows you the original and new sizes so you can see straight away whether it made a difference.
How to use it
- Add the PDF you want to shrink.
- Click Generate.
- Compare the original and compressed sizes shown in the output panel.
- Download compressed.pdf if the result is smaller.
Good to know
- The tool restructures the file but does not re-encode the images inside it. A PDF made mostly of large photos may shrink very little.
- If the result is not smaller, keep your original. Savings vary a lot from one document to the next.
- For image-heavy PDFs, reducing the size of the source images before building the PDF usually makes the biggest difference.
Common questions
Why did my file barely get smaller?
Most of the weight in a typical PDF is its images, and this tool does not recompress them. It removes structural overhead, which helps most with files produced by tools that write a lot of redundant data.
Will compression affect print quality?
No visible quality is removed, because the page content and images are left as they are.
