About Add Page Numbers
Add Page Numbers stamps a running number onto every page of a PDF. It is useful for long reports, legal bundles and printed handouts, where readers need to refer to a specific page, and for documents that were exported without any numbering.
How to use it
- Add the PDF you want to number.
- Choose a position: bottom center, bottom right, top center or top right.
- Set the Start at value if the first page should not be numbered 1.
- Click Generate and download the numbered PDF.
Good to know
- Setting a different starting number is handy when your PDF is a continuation of another document.
- Every page in the file is numbered. Use Split PDF first if you only want to number part of a document.
- The numbers are added on top of the existing page content, so leave enough margin in the original if you need to avoid overlap.
Common questions
Can I skip numbering the cover page?
Every page is numbered by this tool. To leave a cover unnumbered, split it off first, number the rest, and merge them back together.
Does adding numbers change my original file?
No. A new numbered copy is created for download and the original is left as it is.
