About Resize Image
Resize Image changes an image to the exact pixel dimensions you need, such as a profile picture size, a product photo spec or a blog header width. Scaling down a large photo is also one of the most effective ways to make it smaller.
How to use it
- Add an image using the file picker or by dragging it in.
- Enter a width, a height, or both, in pixels.
- Leave Lock aspect ratio on to keep proportions, or turn it off to set both dimensions freely.
- Click Generate and download the resized image.
Good to know
- With the aspect ratio locked, you only need to enter one dimension and the other is worked out for you. If you fill in both, the width is used and the height is recalculated.
- Turning the lock off and setting both dimensions can stretch or squash the picture. To change the shape without distortion, use Crop Image instead.
- Enlarging a small image cannot add detail that was not there, so upscaled images may look soft.
- PNG, JPEG and WebP images keep their original format. Other formats are saved as PNG.
Common questions
How do I resize without stretching the image?
Keep Lock aspect ratio switched on and enter only the width or the height. The other side is calculated to preserve the original proportions.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Making an image smaller in pixels almost always reduces its file size. For a further reduction, run the result through Compress Image.
